Twelve persons have been confirmed dead in an accident on the Mankranso-Sunyani highway in the early hours of Monday.
The accident happened on a section of the road at Akwatiakrom at about 12:15 am on Monday when a Cargo-truck collided head-on with a Ford minivan after it veered off the road and ran into the cargo truck.
The registration number for the Ford minivan was AS 7257-16 while the Cargo-truck’s number was GR 2624-N.
According to a local reporter in the area, the accident happened few meters away from the scene where songstress, Ebony reigns and two others died in a car crash.
Ashanti Regional Police Police Relations Officer, DSP Juliana Obeng who confirmed the incident to Citi News said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in Mankranso while the only survivor is responding to treatment at the Bechem Government Hospital.
The Mankraso-Sunyani road has seen a number of accidents including the recent one involving Dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns who passed away in a car crash in February.
Ebony, whose real name is Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, was returning from Sunyani after visiting her mother who had returned from the UK when the Jeep she was travelling in crashed into railings on the road edge of the road.
336 killed in over 2,000 accidents in just two months
These incidents add to the growing number of accidents in the year 2018.
The National Road Safety Commission recently revealed that over 300 people lost their lives in road accidents in the first two months of 2018.
The Commission also stated that over 2,000 road crashes were recorded in first two months, representing a significant rise from the same period in 2017.
