Twelve bands from Ghana which were shortlisted for the ‘Ghana Vis a Vis’ project will be having the final auditions this weekend.
The bands include Della Hayes And Her Women Of Colour, Elom, Fokn Bois, Fra, Gyatabuom and The Lions, Kakatsitsi and King Ayisoba.
The others are Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife, Lamisi, Soulstreet Band, Weku Kronkron Band and the Yibor Afric Band.
These bands will perform at the Accra Tourist Information Centre on March 15 and 16 before a panel of music directors from Spain after which two of them will be chosen to represent Ghana in Spain during Spanish Music Festival.
‘Vis a Vis’ is a cultural project organized by Spain’s public diplomacy institution Casa África, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Spanish Embassy in Accra and the Ghanaian Embassy in Madrid.
The 12 bands were selected by the Spanish Music Festival directors after listening to 65 bands that registered into Ghana Vis a Vis website and took their decision according to what they think would better fit into their festival line-ups.
The ‘Ghana Vis a Vis’ is the 10th edition of this cultural cooperation project that aims to generate a better knowledge of African music in Spain and has already been held in other 9 African countries.
So far, Vis a Vis has visited Ethiopia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania, Angola and Senegal (on two occasions).
In each country, Spanish cultural promoters had the opportunity not only to listen to the live performances of twelve selected artists but also to maintain professional meetings with them.
With this cultural cooperation project, Casa África aims to contribute not only to a greater presence of African artists in the Spanish scenarios, but also to the development of the cultural industries of African countries.
