A MAJOR Police security operation at places where substances suspected to be narcotic drugs are sold in Kumasi has led to the arrest of 13 people, who are suspected to be drug peddlers and users, the Police Service has announced.
The suspects include Francis Osei, 23, Salifu Wahab, 23, Andy Nsia, 22, Richard Owusu, 20 and Joseph Akosah, 24, Kwaku Oppong, 30 years old and Augustus Appiah, 28.
Also in the grips of the police are Owusu George, 22, John Owusu, 23, Andoh Benjamin, 26, Michael Opoku, 24 and Jennifer Amanda, 23, who is the only female suspect.
The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the police managed to arrest the suspects when the Unit raided known suspected narcotics bases at Kokoben and Kotwi near Kumasi.
According to a police report, which has been sighted by THE NEW PUBLISHER, the unannounced swoop took place around 3:30pm on Saturday, September 10, this year.
According to the police, quantities of dried leaves which are suspected to be narcotics or ‘Wee’, were also found on the suspects, who would be sent to the court very soon.
“All suspects are in custody whiles exhibits are retained for investigations. Suspects would be screened and those found connected with the exhibit will be prosecuted”, the Police noted.
Meanwhile, the police in Kumasi have described the security operation as very successful as it would go a long way to help reduce the usage of drugs in the communities.
