The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will begin the vetting of some 119 party members, including 14 females, who have picked forms to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Ashanti region today Monday, March 2, 2020
Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional NPP Scribe, has stated that the vetting exercise would take place at the Hasta Lodge and it would last for four days.
According to him, the 119 aspirants are vying for 44 out of the 47 seats in the Ashanti region, which are presently in the firm possession of the NPP.
He announced that six lucky people are going unopposed, including the Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’ of Manhyia South.
Sam Pyne noted that party General Secretary, John Boadu is to head the vetting committee, which includes national and Ashanti regional NPP executives.
According to him, even before the vetting, the party had received petitions from some party people in seven constituencies, be he did not mention names.
Sam Pyne said all the 119 aspirants would be vetted as planned and “afterwards we shall send our report to the National Executive Council to take a decision”.
He sternly warned that it is forbidden for any candidate to visit the vetting center with his/her supporters, saying “we want the exercise to be peaceful”.
