Two teenage boys aged 11 and 13, lost their lives after they went on a swimming expedition in an abandoned mining pit.
The tragedy happened at Boete, a mining community in Obuasi. The deceased persons were identified as Bashiru Ibrahim, 11 and Nurudeen Safianu, 13.
The two boys were said to have gone to the abandoned pit often to swim for fun. On one of such swimming adventures, they accidentally got drowned.
The sad incident was reported to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to save the boys.
Though NADMO arrived at the scene on time, it took them three hours before they found the bodies.
By then it was obviously too late as the young boys had already given up the ghost at the time that their bodies were found.
The lifeless bodies of the boys have since been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
The police have started investigations and have not ruled out a possible foul play.
