2 Companies Support GJA Awards
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has received a cheque for GH¢30,000 as sponsorship package from two corporate entities towards this year’s GJA awards.
Ashanti-Foam Factory Ltd (Ash-Foam) presented GH¢20,000, while the Ghana Community Network Services Ltd (GCNet) also donated GH¢10,000.
According to the companies, supporting the 22nd edition of the GJA Awards was in appreciation of the contribution of journalists in the country.
This year’s GJA Awards ceremony is slated for December 20, 2017 at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra.
It is on the theme: “Safe Mining and Environmental Protection, the role of the Media.”
Objective
At a brief ceremony to present the cheque at the Press House in Accra, the Communications Manager of GCNet, Ms Aba Lokko, said the support was in line with her outfit’s values, saying: “there is something that ties in with our values as an organisation, looking at excellence, looking at people with integrity and professionalism.”
She announced that next year, GCNet would sponsor an award for the best journalist in taxation and trade facilitation.
The Marketing and Communications Manager for Ash-Foam, Mr Joe Ampem-Darko Antwi, said the donation was to recognise journalists for their contributions to national development, adding that the GJA and its members had supported the company to build an enviable brand, “so anytime there is something going on to motivate the Ghanaian journalist, partnering the GJA wasn’t a bad idea.”
Appreciation
The President of the GJA, Mr Roland Affail Monney, commended the two companies for supporting the association, and expressed gratitude to them.
He emphasised that this year’s awards would be different since it had been an eventful year in which the media had championed the fight against illegal mining.
