A daring attempt by two men to dig mining pits for gold in a ristricted has led to their untimely deaths.
Bodies of the deceased persons have been identified as Yaw Asiedu, who is said to be 35 years old and Osei Kwame, aged 54 years.
The two died after a heap of sand suddenly collapsed on them, whilst they were deep inside a mining pit and digging for gold on Thursday.
The incident reportedly occurred at Mpatuam Bontefufuo, in a small farming community in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
The two men, who are reported to be known illegal miners, were digging for gold in a restricted area and without requisite authority when the accident occurred.
From nowhere, a heap of sand caved in and trapped them inside the pit, drawing curious people, who are also miners, to the scene.
It took other unauthorized miners at the scene several hours before they could retrieve the body of Asiedu, who had then passed on.
According to reports, Osei Kwame’s lifeless body was also found later on. The two bodies have been kept in a morgue for autopsy.
The police have commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances that led to the two men being trapped in the mining pit by a heap of sand.
