The Ghana Police Service has commenced an official investigation into the near-death road accident suffered by two Ghanaian Members of Parliament; the Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Mubarick Muntaka, and his Deputy, Ahmed Banda, on Saturday morning while travelling on the Kumasi-Accra road.
The two MPs Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak MP for Aswasi and Ahmed Ibrahim MP for Banda, both on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), were reported to have been traveling together in one Toyota 4×4 Land Cruiser vehicle that crashed into a BMW saloon car with registration number plate ER 1275-W that had failed to observe traffic rules before joining the main Kumasi-Accra road.
The crash was severe and badly damaged both vehicles.
The two MPs as well as he driver of the Land Cruiser vehicle with registration GE 2961-18, Corporal Yakubu Mohammed were all rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The Toyota 4×4 has two other occupants Haruna Mohammed and Noah Manu.
While the two MPs have been treated and discharged, the driver of the BMW, whose name was given as William Asuako and said to be an officer of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) is still responding to treatment.
Ashanti Regional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Emmanuel Adu Boahen told Joy News caution statements would be taken from the suspects when they recover fully.
It was reported that a William Asuako drove carelessly right in the middle of the busy road and so the MPs vehicle was destined to crash into it.
Muntaka, who is the NDC MP for Asawase and Banda, NDC MP for Banda, were seated in the vehicle as it landed heavily on the shoulder of the road.
Surprisingly, the two lawmakers did not sustain any dangerous body injuries.
The crash caused some vehicular traffic on the busy Kumasi-Accra highway for some time.
