The 2018 Ghana Football Association Football Gala has officially been launched at an event at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
The competition is making a return after a 13-year hiatus and will feature 16 clubs from the Premier and Division One leagues.
It was last held in 2005 and won by Asante Kotoko.
This year’s event will be held over 2 days at the Ndoum Stadium in Elmina on 3rd and 4th February, 2018 and will usher in the new Ghana football season.
GN Ndoum, owners of the Ndoum Sports Stadium, venue of the 2018 gala, will also provide accommodation for members of the organizing committee of the competition.
What’s at stake?
Apart from the giant trophy, Kurt Okraku, chairman of the organising committee, revealed that participating teams will earn $2,500 and a further $500 for next round, $1000 for runner up, and $2000 for winner.
Games will travel for 20 minutes per half in the 1st and 2nd rounds and 30 minutes for the final.
Last week, the Ghana FA announced the confirmed list of 16 clubs for this year’s Gala.
The participating clubs in this year’s invitational Gala include eleven Premier League sides for the 2017/18 season and five teams selected from all three zones in the Division One League.
Premier League:
Berekum Chelsea, Bechem United, Inter Allies, Eleven Wonders, Dreams FC, Medeama, Elmina Sharks, Ebusua Dwarfs, Hearts of Oak, Wa All Stars, and Asante Kotoko.
Division One:
Great Olympics, NEA Salamina, Vision FC, New Edubiase and FC Samartex
Clubs will be allowed to register a squad of up to 30 players.
Semi finals and final games will be live on StarTimes Ghana, headline sponsors of the competition.
