2019 AFCON Qualifier: Ghana Wins 2-0 Over Ethiopia
The Black Stars of Ghana beat Ethiopia 2-0 in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier in Addis Ababa. The Black Stars needed the win at all cost and they did so with ease.
The Crystal Palace striker was handed a start in Addis Ababa, joining Emmanuel Boateng in attack and he rediscovered his fine form as he found the breakthrough with just three minutes on the clock.
The 27-year-old controlled a long pass from defender Harrison Afful before finding the back of the net with a fine strike from close range.
This goal silenced the Ethiopian fans who were very loud at the beginning of the game.
Soon after saw the Ethiopian team coming hard after Emmanuel Boateng as was brought down in the Ethiopian penalty area.
The referee wasted no time to award Ghana a penalty which was calmly slotted home in the 23rd minute by Jordan Ayew to make it 2-0 to Ghana.
It was all Ethiopia in the second half as they searched for a goal but the Black Stars stood their grounds to see the game end 2-0.
This win takes Ghana to 6 points and second in Group F with Kenya leading the group with 7 points.
