2019 Budget Expectations: Allocate Funds for Theater Building – MUSIGA to Gov’t

Leaders of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have disclosed that they expect a major boost from government in the soon to be read 2019 budget.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Attah, is expected to present the 2019 budget on behalf of government to Parliament tomorrow.

The Union is, among other things, hoping that government would fulfill its promise of constructing theaters for the Creative Arts Industry.

The Vice President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, in an exclusive interview with THE PUBLISHER ahead of the budget review, expressed concerns of substantial funds expected to be allocated by government to help solve problems in the sector.

”Lack of funds and theaters has been our major problem. Ghana as a nation has not done so well in the Creative Arts Sector in the past years. We want steps to be taken so that the. MUSIGA and the Creative Arts Council expect a major development in the 2019 budget” – he noted.

He also entreated government to implement measures that will improve the efficiency of the creative works from musicians and all creative persons.

According to him, the full operation of the sector, plus the establishment of a fully functional Secretariat and the commencement of feasibility studies will help boost the local economy and create awareness about the Ghanaian heritage.

He encouraged musicians in the country, especially the young ones, to appreciate MUSIGA because it is the only family for musicians.

Bessa Simons urged members not to be deceived by the negative narratives about MUSIGA, saying the union has achieved a lot under President Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour.

The establishment of a Creative Arts Fund is a major manifesto promise of the New Patriotic Party on the tourism industry prior to the 2016 general election.
