Two hundred and seventy-six recruits have been added to the Ghana Police Service. They are to be posted to the newly created regions to augment the numerical strength of police personnel there.
The graduands comprise of 132 males and 144 females underwent seven months intensive theory and practical training.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, July 25, 2019, deputy Minister of Interior, Mr Henry Quartey, urged the new recruits to stamp out corruption and make the service accountable to Ghanaians.
According to him, the service was perceived as the most corrupt institution in Ghana because of the unprofessional conduct of extortion and brutalisation of citizens exhibited by some of its personnel.
He emphasized the need for them to desist from the routine practice of extorting monies from motorists and rather concentrate on protecting lives and property.
Chief Bawah Abdul Jalil further urged them to serve as game changers in the police service. He commended the police administration for increasing the intake of female into the service.
Among other subjects, they studied in the 6 months period are police service instructions and constitutional instrument 76, criminal investigations, criminal procedure, law of evidence, map reading, practical police duties, child friendly policing, community policing, basic officers skills, human rights law and domestic violence.
