The police had charged the three convicts — Abukari Anaba, Prince Antwi and Peter Owusu Oduom — with conspiracy to commit crime and assault.
They all pleaded guilty to the two counts and were convicted on their own pleas.
Each of them was fined GH¢3,000 to be paid to the state. In addition, they were asked to pay GH¢3,000 in compensation to the student victims.
The convicts will go to prison for 12 months each if they fail to pay the fines.
Background
The three students had prepared the fowl they allegedly stole and were about to cook it in their hideout in the woods when they were accosted by the convicts and their two accomplices.
A video of the incident showed the men threatening the students to eat the chicken raw to avoid the case being reported to their school authorities since that could lead to their expulsion.
The frightened students, two of who were handcuffed together by the community police assistant, then had no option but to eat the uncooked chicken. They were given water to drink in order to make the eating somewhat easy.
