On Saturday mid-morning, a 19-year-old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was reported to have fallen from a storey building on campus, crash landed on his head and died at a time the students were already wailing in agony because a car crash on the same campus had killed two persons the same day and caused life threatening injuries to three others.
The three dead persons were identified as Cupson Larry Leslie aged 19, who fell from the storey building while the two who died in the bloody car crash were said to be 22-year-old Seidu Yussif Tia and 21-year-old Afoakwah Baffuor Kwaku.
Fall From Building
Cupson Larry Leslie, a first year mathematics student, according to police report, fell from the first floor of Unity Hall and landed on his head, resulting in severe head and body injuries.
Leslie was rushed to the KNUST hospital for treatment but he was quickly referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he died.
The heartbreaking incident, the police report which The New Publisher has sighted, said, occurred around 11:20am on campus on Saturday.
It said Leslie had visited his colleague female first-year Mathematics student, name withheld for now for security reasons, at the Unity Hall on the day.
Leslie and his female friend were said to be standing on the veranda on the first floor of the Unity Hall as they chat, but suddenly Leslie fell to the ground.
The police report said Leslie sustained severe head injuries as he landed in his head, so he was immediately rushed to the KNUST hospital for treatment.
Leslie’s condition kept deteriorating so he was referred to KATH but unfortunately he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police investigation is ongoing.
Gory Crash
The vehicular accident claimed two lives and caused life-threatening injuries to three others on the campus.
Among the deceased persons in the Saturday dawn bloody accident, included a student of the KNUST and a former student of the same university, whose bodies are being kept in the mortuary now.
According to a police report, the deceased persons are Seidu Yussif Tia, 22, who is a former student of KNUST and Afoakwah Baffuor Kwaku, 21, who is studying for his first degree at the KNUST.
Around 3am on that fateful day, Seidu Yussif was driving a Hyundai Sonata salon private vehicle, with registration number GR 9441-19, which had four other male people, who are all students, on board.
Suddenly, the speeding vehicle, which was negotiating a sharp curve, the report indicated, veered from the main road and rammed into a big tree on the shoulder of the road, in a dangerous fashion.
Afoakwah Baffuor Kwaku, who was seated in the front seat of the vehicle, died instantly after the crash. Seidu Yussif, who was the driver, got trapped in the car for sometime before he was rescued.
Seidu Yussif after he was rescued with the help of the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), was immediately rushed to the KNUST hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The three other occupants of the vehicle, who were identified as Davis Danso, 24, Kelvin Baah, 24, and Narh Emmanuel Peter, 21, sustained injuries.
Emmanuel Peter’s condition is said to be critical.
