Mining firm AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine has revealed that its health outreach program dubbed ‘mini clinic’ has so far screened and treated over 33,000 people after 15 editions.
Speaking at a just ended mini clinic at Odumase in the Obuasi East district on Wednesday 25th September 2024, the Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Edmond Oduro Agyei said the program has become successful due to a strong partnership between AngloGold Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II foundation, Quantum PLC, AGA health foundation and Veolia, supporting it to the full potential.
The min clinic offers free screenings for a variety of health concerns including eye exams, malaria tests, diabetes screenings, dental assessments and treatment, mass deworming, screening for high blood pressure, as well as other OPD services.
Started in 2021, Mr. Agyei said the free health screening and treatment exemplifies AGA’s belief that quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances or barriers impeding access to quality healthcare.
“We understand that many people face challenges in their quest to access quality healthcare. So our mission as a mining company is to break down those barriers and bring critical health resources directly to the doorsteps of the people “, he added.
Satisfied with patronage, the Obuasi East district health director Dr. Enyonam Kwawukume lauded AngloGold Ashanti for the impactful mini clinic program stressing that it prevents opportunity for those who hitherto could not afford quality healthcare to be provided with one at their doorsteps.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East constituency, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom appealed to Ghanaians to prioritize their health, emphasizing that it is the most valuable asset a person can have.
He said AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has demonstrated that it is the preferred development partner following the roll out of series of programs and projects underlined in its 10-year socioeconomic development plan.
