The Greater Accra Regional Police has picked up four persons in connection with the murder of Prof Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, a senior Law lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG).
The persons: Christian Pobee, 32; James Nana Womba, 26; both cleaners; Isaac Botchwey, 41; a house help and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52, a gardener
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge who confirmed the arrest said “Currently a team of investigators including the Crime Scene management team from the CID have begun investigations and are undertaking thorough crime scene reconstruction analysis to help the police clear headway into the unfortunate incident.”
She further added that police will readily inform any development which will not jeopardize the investigations to the public.
The Late Prof Benneh was killed in his home at Adjirigano although there was no sign of forced entry.
According to his colleague at the Faculty, Dr Poku Adusei, the academic was “murdered” in the same fashion as the late Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
“It appears to be an act perpetuated about three days ago [Thursday], but it was just discovered this morning,” he said.
Police picked up the body of Prof Benneh who lives alone from his home on Saturday morning.
K’si Actor Shot
Meanwhile, Kumawood actor Andrew Ntul Mensah aka Scorpion GH narrowly escaped death when some unknown assailants shot him at his resilience.
According to the Family of the actor other tenants in the house have confirmed the armed men repeatedly said he (Scorpion GH) was their target.
The actor was shot twice in the thigh and rib by armed men who broke into his apartment on Thursday dawn.
Scorpion GH, who usually plays action roles in movies, was able to flee the scene after struggling with the criminals.
He, however, sustained gunshot wounds and was later rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
His sibling, who spoke to journalists on anonymity, said his brother is lucky to be alive.
“My brother told me when the assailants got to him, one said kill him and let’s go so it was obvious they were just there to kill him,” he said.
He said because Scorpion rushed out of the room, it saved his wife and children from being hurt.
“He was their target so they run after him when he escaped and shot him twice before he [Scorpion] got help from neighbours,” he recounted.
J.B Killed
Prof Benneh’s murder adds to the long tally of similar unraveled deaths in the country including that of Fennec Okyere 31, who was killed at his Manet Gardens residence on the Spintex Road in Accra on March 13, 2014, by unknown assailants.
In 2016, J.B Danquah, was also gruesomely murdered at dawn on February 9 at his home at Shiashie a suburb of Accra.
Police investigations showed he suffered two stab wounds, one to his rib, the other to his abdomen.
Five people including a security man, a driver and some others at the residence were picked up by the police to help with investigations.
However, two persons-Daniel Asiedu and one Vincent Bossu are currently before court for their alleged involvement in the case.
The NPP then had indicated that it suspected foul play in the murder.
