4 Boys Drown …After Heavy Rains
A USUAL swimming expedition of six young boys at Breman in Kumasi turned disastrous as four of them got drowned mysteriously.
The deceased persons were identified as Abdellah Osman,10, Clinton Dzamesi, 9, Israel Asante, 9 and Seth Owusu,10.
The Ashanti Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director, Kwabena Nsenkyire, who confirmed the sad news to the paper, said residents of the area usually swim in the stream, especially when the weather is hot, without any incident of this nature.
He, however, noted that the disaster must have occurred, most probably because the stream had overflowed its banks that day, after some heavy rains in the area.
He said when information reached his outfit around 5pm that fateful day several efforts were made by divers to rescue the missing boys, but all to no avail. The NADMO chief further disclosed that, after six hours of search, the bodies of the deceased were retrieved, around 11pm that same day.
THE NEW PUBLISHER is reliably informed by residents that the two survivors, who are currently hospitalized, are visibly traumatised.
