FOUR PRECIOUS souls have sadly been lost on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, the busiest road network in the state, which is gradually becoming a slaughter ‘road’.
In what can be best described as a case of careless driving, a driver in charge of a Sprinter Bus, identified as Yaw Opoku, crashed his car into a stationary long truck.
The accident was so deadly that four people on board the Sprinter Bus, according to a police report, perished and their bodies have been sent to the mortuary for autopsy.
A reliable police source disclosed to the paper that around 3am on August 13, 2021, the white coloured Sprinter bus was heading to Kumasi from the Accra direction.
Upon reaching Nobewam near Konongo, which is a three lane road, the driver of the Sprinter bus crashed his car into a stationary truck, which had then developed a fault.
Ironically, the faulty long truck was parked on the outer lane and a warning triangle was also placed in the front and rear of the car, yet the Sprinter bus rammed into it.
After the crash, a Ford car that was closely following the Sprinter bus also hit the bus at the rear, resulting in three passengers being trapped dead in the mangled Sprinter bus.
Other injured persons in the bus were rushed to the hospital for treatment but one of them was also declared dead, increasing the number of dead people to four.
The driver of the bus has been apprehended by the police and he is assisting in investigations when this report was being filed.
