A FOURTH suspect in the Bantama gang-rape saga has been picked up by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The suspect, a student (name withheld), was arrested from his hideout in Kumasi on Wednesday, the police has said.
DCOP Ken Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who made the disclosure, failed to say where the suspect was arrested, but indicated that the he too would be arraigned soon so that he could be remanded like his other three accomplices.
Gang-Rape Incident
It would be recalled that some teenagers, believed to be in Junior High and Senior High Schools, allegedly, gang-raped a teenage girl at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi last weekend.
A recorded video of the obscene act, which was uploaded unto the internet, had since gone viral on various social media platforms, notably WhatsApp.
In the video, the hapless girl was seen struggling with the young boys, who gang-raped her in turns in a room.
It was reported that seven boys took part in the act. Three of them were arrested from their homes that same Friday, and were remanded into juvenile cells by the Asokwa Court One on Wednesday.
The police subsequently intensified their hunt for the others, leading to the eventual arrest of the fourth suspect.
Police’s Assurance
DCOP Yeboah assured that even though the exact number of those involved in the act was not known, his outfit would do everything possible to bring all the perpetrators to justice.
