FIVE SUSPECTS, who recently robbed a popular small scale gold miner at gun-point at Obuasi, have been apprehended by the Obuasi District Police to face the law.
Two of the suspects, identified as Richard Addae aka ‘Red’, 30 and Emmanuel Addai, 21, were first arrested by the victim and his workers and handed over to the police.
Later on, the police also arrested suspects Frederick Arhin alias ‘Nana Sabeng’, 34, Peter Boadi aka ‘Yaw Agyemang’, 27 years and Francis Quansah aka ‘Kwadwo Ellis’, 23.
A police report said the robbers, numbering about seven, on May 21, 2022 around 1:30pm, robbed Osei Stephen, 31, a Small Scale Miner at Bongobiri, a suburb of Obuasi.
According to the police, the hoodlums, who were heavily armed, made away with some quantities of gold and they also assaulted some workers of Stephen Osei.
After the robbery expedition, Stephen Osei and his workers mustered courage and arrested suspects Richard Addae aka ‘Red’, 30 and Emmanuel Addai, 21 and handed them over to the police.
He then “reported that at about 3:30am, the suspects were among other five armed men who came to his site at Anwona, near Sanso Junction and robbed him of quantities of gold ore (black) and mining blanket, value not known”.
The complainant said the robbers also assaulted some of his workers.
“After the complaint, the Police moved in and arrested suspects Frederick Arhin aka ‘Nana Sabeng’, 34, Peter Boadi ‘Yaw Agyemang’, 27 and Francis Quansah aka ‘Kwadwo Ellis’, 23 at Anwona.
“With a report that they were mentioned to the complainant by an informant that they were among those who robbed him at his mining site”, a police report seen by the paper, said.
Meanwhile, information indicated that one of the suspects is still on the run as police are making efforts to arrest him.
