5-Member Committee Probes Chereponi Clashes
The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has inaugurated a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the incident that led to deadly clashes between Konkombas and Chokosis in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region.
The committee is mandated to identify the cause of the conflict and make appropriate recommendations. It has until 12 February 2019 to submit its report.
The chiefs and people of the Konkomba and Chokosi communities have also signed a peace pact to ensure calm in the area.
The Northern Regional Security Council held a peace summit for both ethnic groups on Thursday, 10 January 2019.
Chiefs, opinion leaders, top political figures, and youth groups from both the Anufor and Konkomba communities participated in the summit.
At least four people died in the clashes and over 150 homes were torched during the clashes.
Hundreds of people in the communities had to flee to neighbouring Togo during the clashes.
