$50m Needed to Complete UG Medical Centre
The Minister of Heath, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has revealed that a colossal sum of $50 Million is needed to complete the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
According to him, though Phase I of the project looks completed, some additional services were later added and these services required extra cost to complete.
“The core and shell are done but it has not been fully equipped and we cannot take it on board and that is why we have requested an additional 50 million to complete the outstanding needs,” an aid of the Minister said.
Mr Agyeman-Manu made this known when the Ministry of Health (MOH) met the press in Accra, on Thursday.
“Efforts are on the way to complete phase I for operation and presently, the Contractor is fixing some pieces of the medical equipment before operation will commence,” he said.
The minister added that the proposed amount for completion would also be extended to the development of Phase II of the project.
Completion of Phase I and development of Phase II according to the minister would consist: Supply, installation, technical support and maintenance of additional specialised medical equipment to complement and complete some areas already built in Phase 1.
Development of additional departmental requirements commensurate to the level of the facility such as;
Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, VIP Maternity Care with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Centre, IVF and Day Care Surgery.
The other facilities are; Facilities for Cardio and open-heart surgery, Additional facilities for medical training, Robotic Centre (equipment), Commercial Out Patient Pharmacy, Provision of sub-station to boost power supply, Commercial Morgue and Staff housing.
