58-Year-Old Elizabeth Adoko Wins 2023 Best Teacher Award

58-year-old Elizabeth Adoko was adjudged the overall best teacher in the 2023 Teacher/ Educational workers prize day held in Obuasi.

Madam Adoko who is the Head teacher of Nana Ponkor II MA JHS faced off stiff competition from other hardworking teachers in the Obuasi Municipality.

For her prize, madam Adoko who has taught for over 38 years took home Hisense deep freezer and citation. She stands out as an exceptional educationist who has demonstrated remarkable commitments throughout her teaching career starting off as a teacher at the Obuasi Methodist school for 30 years.

Speaking to the media after her crowning moment, madam Elizabeth Adoko said her achievement was down to commitment and dedication to the teaching profession

“Teaching is a passion, and no matter how modest the salary may be, I often use my own money to sponsor some school projects” she said.

On his part, the Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah lauded the education directorate for putting the awards ceremony together stressing that the directorate has over the years demonstrated competence and commitment to duty through supervision, guidance and Innovation.

“Teachers deserve to be honored. The commitment the teachers put into teaching in Obuasi is a reflection of the efforts the directorate put in place by making education a success here” he noted.

He averred that the Assembly through its collaboration with the Education Directorate played a key role in organizing this year’s teachers’ awards and pledged the Assembly’s resolve to sponsor subsequent teachers awards.

The Obuasi MCE admonished parents to play their role in supporting their wards education. He said whiles government is making frantic efforts to make education accessible through programs like FCUBE and Free Senior High School, parents must also play a role in making sure their children are always in school and learn hard to justify the investments made in them.

Touching on the theme for this year’s Teacher/ Educational workers prize day, “The teachers we need for the education we want, the role of stakeholders”, George Alfred Koomson, the Municipal Director of Education said teachers are doing a lot to maintain quality standards in education hence awarding them is in good order.

He said the awards processes was strenuous and transparent which involved key stakeholders in education including Assembly members, Schools improvement support officers and a committee formed to probe the outputs of the teachers.

In all, Mr. Koomson said 13 teaching and non- teaching staff made up of 5 men and 8 women from the Junior High School, Kindergarten, Primary, Senior High School, teaching staff (office) and non-teaching staff and Headteachers were awarded. There were also 3 special awards.

He thanked the Obuasi Municipal Assembly as well as other sponsors for coming onboard to make this year’s award ceremony a success.

Aaron Boafo, Obuasi JHS Complex Headmaster who won Central Best Headteacher, Junior High School category implored his colleague headmasters to employ modern technologies to monitor their teachers and insist on the best practices to be employed to aid teaching and learning in their school.

“Personally, I have adopted CCTV camera which I periodically use to monitor the teachers from my phone”.
