7 Die in Weekend Disaster
The weekend has fast receded but for some families, a new week approached with grief striking when they least expected.
Yesterday, five people―a mother and her four children were found dead, after a suspected domestic fire accident gutted their apartment at Akokofoto in Dansoman.
According to an eye witness, the fire started at dawn but all efforts to rescue the deceased proved futile.
“I was fetching water around 5:30am when I saw a thick smoke high up the sky. I heard a woman and some children shouting for help from the building.
It was hard getting inside the building with smoke covering everywhere. We eventually got the woman and her children but they died shortly after we got to them,” the eye witness revealed on Accra based Citi FM.
Pageant Disaster
Meanwhile, two contestants of the popular inter-tertiary beauty pageant, Face Of USAG, on Thursday drowned at a Cape Coast beach.
A fun-catching photo shoot turned sour after Sara Kwarteng and Lily Ampofowaa Asiedu from the University of Education, Mampong campus and the University of Ghana, Legon, respectively got washed away by high tides.
The photo shoot session was part of the pageantry procedure but was met with warnings from the Dean of Students of the host school, the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Sources say although these ladies had been warned not to swim, since the Cape Coast festival was drawing nigh, five ladies defied the cautions to wash up after the shoot.
All five of them began drowning. Out of the 5, four were saved. But unfortunately, one died at the hospital.
The body of the fifth lady, Ms Kwarteng was found yesterday after three nights at Duakro near the University of Cape Coast.
The mortal remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the morgue.
