In less than 72 hours, seven persons have died in separate accidents at Nsawam on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
Three persons died while several others sustained injuries in an accident involving five vehicles on the Nsawam-Ofankor Road on Monday dawn.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 4:30 am after a speeding tipper truck crashed into four vehicles, including a school bus and an STC bus.
According to the report, one of the vehicles somersaulted several times after developing a mechanical fault.
Nine other passengers, who were in the Sprinter Bus, also suffered various degrees of injury and were rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital for medical attention.
On Friday evening, four persons reportedly died in an accident, which occurred at Okanta, near Nsawam on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
Two passengers, who suffered severe injuries, were rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, latest statistics from the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) indicated that a total of 293 persons died in road accidents between January and September 2018 in the Eastern Region as against 270 in the same period in 2017.
Also, 1,615 people sustained injuries during the same period in 2018 as compared to 1,515 in 2017.
