9 Magistrates Sworn-in
Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has sworn in the first batch of nine career magistrates as fully-fledged professional magistrates with a clarion call on them to research thoroughly before presiding over cases.
After administering the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday, 9 August, Ms Akuffo stressed that the judiciary under her watch, will not accommodate magistrates or judges who indulge in malfeasance and other acts of wrongdoing.
She also asked the newly-sworn in magistrates to maintain high moral standards, adding that the peace and stability Ghana enjoys is as a result of the confidence reposed in the judiciary by the people of Ghana, hence the need to uphold that dignity.
She described their transit from career magistrates to full magistrates as a boost to the justice delivery system.
The Chief Justice also said she is ensuring that the courts are conducive for magistrates and judges.
For his part, the President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges, Justice Victor Ofoe, lauded the Chief Justice for facilitating a ‘study leave with pay’ for magistrates.
He asked the newly-sworn in magistrates to discharge their duties effectively without fear or favour.
