Ghana and Rio Ave striker, Abdul-Aziz Yakubu, has dreams of competing at the FIFA World Cup and the Tamale born forward believes playing in the mundial will be a proud moment for him.
Yakubu missed out on a spot in the squad put together for the friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua despite a good start to the new football season in Portugal.
He started the 2022-2023 season on a blistering note by registering five goals and two assists in seven games.
He scored a goal and assisted fellow Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Boateng’s strike in Rio Ave’s 2-3 league loss to SC Braga.
He stated his wish to feature in the World Cup in an extensive interview with Portuguese outlet ZeroZero in the lead up to Ghana’s high profile friendly game against Brazil in France.
“It will be a dream come true…me being there (at the World Cup) one day will be (a) proud moment for me and my family and my friends so am dreaming of it, I hope it comes true.”
Ghana has been drawn in Group H at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
