As the national election of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) inches closer, some personalities have started expressing interest in positions they want to occupy.
The Founder and Executive Director of Diamond Africa Foundation (DAF), Ruth Benny Wood popularly known as Abena Ruthy has announced her intention to vie for the position of 2nd Vice President.
This comes a few days after the current 1st Vice President of the Union, Bessa Simons also came out to express interest in the presidency.
In an interview with The Publisher, she talks about the experience she has gleaned from the music industry since she started music years ago.
She also mentions her contribution to the industry and the prospects it holds if she should be given the nod to be part of the MUSIGA’s upcoming top leadership.
According to her, she will help bridge that gap between Leadership and Members with the experience over the period as President of women in Gospel music, having held the group together for 5 years.
”What I intend bringing on board is to support the Executive body to implement strategies that will inure to the benefit of all members” she said.
On giving remarks on the leadership of outgoing President of Ghana Musicians Union (MUSIGA), Abena Ruthy said, Obour’s administration ”has done what was in their power to do so I expect the incoming one to improve upon whatever they have done and add more for the lives of all stakeholders”.
With regards to her educational background, Abena Ruthy has taken courses in Public Policy and Administration with Walden University, specializing in People Management and Leadership, MA Economic Policy Management, University of Ghana, Executive MBA Marketing option, University of Ghana, Legon, BA English with French, Legon.
Meanwhile the body has set up a five-member committee that will supervise its national elections in June.
The committee has Smart Nkansah as its chairman, with former MUSIGA president Diana Hopeson as secretary. It also has Rev. Dr Mary Ghansah, Lawyer Jonathan Cudjoe and Trigmatic.
The committee will supervise the filing and the nomination processes and take care of vetting those who will hope to occupy the various position. It will also work with the Electoral Commission of Ghana to ensure a free and fair election.
