Property worth thousands of Ghana Cedis were on Monday night destroyed by fire in a house at Adjiriganor in Accra.
The incident happened in the house which also has some shops in the front on the main American House – Adjiriganor 69 street near the PISTIS /Tudec area.
The fire started in the one-storey building which serves as a shop for the sale of various household items.
When Graphic Online arrived at the scene at 9:33pm, some young men from the opposite house were using fire extinguishers to prevent fire balls from torching the opposite house.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The fire said to have started around 9pm took a while before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at 9:54pm to battle it.
An elderly woman in a wheel chair who was trapped in the house was rescued before the fire service arrived.
The main road was blocked and vehicles had to use alternative routes.
