Acheampong Asiedu Confirmed as New Denkyira Obuasi DCE
The Assembly Members of the Upper Denkyira West district assembly of the Central region has confirmed the President’s nominee for the area.
Mr. Acheampong Asiedu who was the youth organiser for the New Patriotic Party in the area polled 20 out of 22 votes cast Thursday morning at the assembly premises at Denkyira Obuasi.
He was nominated by President Akufo-Addo after the then District Chief Executive Daniel Appianing was sacked following some comments he made on the Major Maxewell Mahama Murder in the area.
Mr. Appianning who was the head of the District’s Security Council during the gruesome murder of Major Mahama disclosed that he was unaware of the presence of the military officers in the area detailed to supervise a clamp down on illegal mining.
“…in fact, he [Major Maxwell Mahama] is said to be the leader…I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers,” he said.
Social media descended heavily on the DCE condemning the comments which many believed was insensitive and ignorant. He was later suspended for comments he made after the murder of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama.
Speaking to the media after his confirmation, Mr. Asiedu pledged to work to bring meaningful development to the area including ending acts of violence.
