Celebrated Ghanaian actor and comedian, Reverend Prince Yawson popularly known as ‘Waakye’ was reported to have died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra yesterday Tuesday August 2, 2022 at the age of 56.
An immediate-family female source confirmed to The New Publisher that Waakye had suffered ill-health for a while now and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital on Monday after his situation worsened suddenly.
He gave up the ghost on Tuesday afternoon while still on admission.
Waakye, in the year 2020, topped news headlines after reports went public that he had suffered a mild-stroke.
He however recovered and was seen at several public events although he did less of acting.
He was very active in the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) Creative Arts for Change (CAfC) campaign group of celebrities and persons from the Arts fraternity.
In the year 2021, precisely on Sunday April 25, Waakye was officially ordained as a full-time Reverenced Minister at the Word Impact Centre in Accra after he had graduated from a Bible school.
Waakye’s ordination service was well attended by family and colleagues from the movie industry sector.
Soon after his ordination, Waakye told Onua TV how he became a Man of God:
“I had the call almost 40 years now but I was recalcitrant when I heard the voice of God”.
He added that “That is why I was roving so I asked myself why God called me because we have so many righteous people in the country”.
Waakye explained that “The call came again when I was writing at the beach. I saw this man with children. He passed by me but came back and said why are you being recalcitrant? I asked him and the man said why has God been calling you but you do not want to do the job?”
Rev Yawson said “The man I had never seen warned me to do the job else I will suffer. I did not know him. If I knew him, I would have mentioned his name. He told me to start a small church but in no time, I suffered a cardiac arrest”.
