VICE PRESIDENT Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who has lost his biological parents, has appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to adopt him as his son.
He said death had laid its icy hands on both his biological parents, firstly his father and just recently his mother, but he is not an orphan because he sees Otumfuo as his father.
Dr. Bawumia has consequently appealed passionately to Otumfuo to take him and his siblings as his (Otumfuo’s) own children, since they regard him as their father.
The Vice President gave the emotional statement when he appeared before the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Thursday with his siblings and family.
Dr. Bawumia was at the Manhyia Palace to offer his thanks and appreciation to the Asante King for his support during the funeral of Hajia Mariama Bawumia, his late mother.
It would be recalled that the Asantehene sent a powerful delegation of Asante chiefs, led by Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, the Agric Nzemahene, to represent him at the funeral.
Dr. Bawumia, who was also accompanied to the palace by some top chiefs in Mamprugu, said he and his family were overly impressed by the support that they received from Otumfuo.
According to him, the Asantehene’s support for him was a clear evidence that indeed Otumfuo is the father for all, so it is in the right direction for him to take Otumfuo as his father.
The Vice President stated that he and his siblings would hurriedly respond to every call of the Asante Monarch, who is their father, adding that he respect and cherish Otumfuo.
“Otumfuo you are my everything now; you are my father and whenever you call me, whether morning, afternoon, evening or midnight, I will quickly make myself available”.
