Afia Schwarzenegger Curses FDA, Gets Support From Tonto Dikeh

The frustration from Afia Schwarzenegger on raining curses on heads of the Food and Drugs Authority has received support from Nollywood actress and philanthropist Tonto Dikeh.

Afia last Saturday shared a video of herself raining curses on the FDA at 12 midnight on the basis that she has been victimized for speaking the truth.

According to her, some people from the FDA have taken bribes from people and allowed them to make alcoholic advert during the day but she did the same and they are now chasing her clients with fines.

Tonto Dikeh who didn’t understand what the Ghanaian comedienne was saying because she was speaking in her local dialect (Twi) pleaded with her to explain to her in English.

Responding to her, Afia Schwarzenegger claimed that some some officials of the FDA have fined some people she used to work with, a whooping amount of 25,000 Ghana cedis and that the fine will be cancelled if they stopped working with her.

Angered by the issue, Tonto Dikeh prayed with Afia Schwarzenegger and encouraged her to continue with her curses.

Background

In 2015, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) banned celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages.

The FDA said at the time that the ban was not only in adherence to a World Health Organisation policy but was part of efforts to protect children and prevent them from being lured into alcoholism.

The FDA subsequently in 2018 announced that the advertisement of alcoholic products TV and Radio must be limited to after 20:00GMT.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the FDA, James Lartey, this move became necessary because the number of alcohol ads aired in the day was too many and not a good thing for minors to get exposed to. He said, flouting this directive attracts 15 years term in prison and fine of about 7,500 cedis.

The likes of Shatta Wale, Wendy Shay, Edem amongst other celebrities have over the period blasted the FDA for taking such an action.
