AGI to Engage More Women in Industry
The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has stated its resolve to empower women to take a centre role in the nation’s socio-economic development.
Mrs Lucy Tenkorang, Vice Chair, Volta/Eastern branch of the Association, in a release copied to the Ghana News Agency to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, said series of business programmes aimed at strategically positioning women in industry would be rolled out in the year.
She said special focus would be placed on women in small and medium scale enterprises in the Volta and Eastern regions and charged them to prepare for a “massive shake up” in the sector.
Mrs Tenkorang noted that women bore lots of responsibilities although marginalised, and said the celebration of Women’s Day symbolised the “emancipation” of women and urged local Assemblies to support women entrepreneurs.
She said society expected much from women and called on them to seize the moment and unite towards achieving set goals and growing the local economy.
“On behalf of the AGI, I call on women to empower, support and inspire one another. We believe our men also have significant roles to play and this is the platform AGI offers in ensuring that we combine our human resources to promote development in our country.
“There are many opportunities now for us to prove our qualities and show what we can do. I know that there are still some challenges that hinder women’s progress, but I have a firm believe that together we can do it, Mrs Tenkorang stated.
