Ahwiaa Conflict: Schools Shut Down
Basic and Second cycles schools at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East Municipal in the Ashanti region have been closed down following a renew clash between Muslim and non-Muslim youth on Monday March 19, 2018, that resulted in the death of one person and three others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Assembly, Hon. Assibey Antwi, speaking to otecfmghana.com on Tuesday March 20, 2018, said the closure is part of precautionary measures adopted by the Assembly to prevent any unforeseeable disaster.
He said “now that investigation are ongoing to establish the cause of the renew clash, we will want all schools to be shut down, to prevent any other disaster. It also to protect the students and the teachers since the renew clash involved a teacher.”
One person, a 25 year old Musah Kabore, was killed following the renew clash and forty-eight suspects have been arrested by the police.
The development has brought trading and other social activities in the community to a standstill.
A combined military and police team has taken over the community to maintain law and order.
