Akrofuom Primary, JHS Top Winners On March 6

The Akrofuom District Assembly happily joined the rest of the nation to celebrate Ghana’s 67th Independence Day in a grand style.

The event, held at the Akrofuom Senior High Technical School Park, witnessed the participation of numerous schools in the district and several esteemed dignitaries.

At the end of a colorful march past competition, Akrofuom D/A JHS emerged victorious in the Junior High School category whiles Akrofuom Methodist Primary School claimed the top spot in the Primary School category with Akrofuom Methodist clinching the first prize in the kindergarten category.

Akrofuom Senior High Technical School emerged as winners in the SHS category.

The Chief Executive for Akrofuom District, Hon Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode delivering the anniversary speech on behalf of President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the significance of celebrating Independence Day and expressed gratitude for the government’s support that has propelled the nation forward despite numerous challenges.

He provided a historical account of Ghana’s journey to independence, highlighting the struggles endured by our forefathers. Hon Maurice Jonas Woode recognized the contributions of the “Big Six,” particularly Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, stating, “Indeed, the candle that was lit 67 years ago by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah continues to illuminate our nation.”

Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode talked about the vital role of democracy in our nation, emphasizing its ability to provide equal opportunities and combat corruption.

Under the theme “Our Democracy Our Pride,” he praised Ghana’s democratic system, earning recognition as the “Golden Child” of West Africa for consistently organizing peaceful elections.

With eight successful multi-party elections under the Fourth Republic, Ghana’s democratic progress is evident. Increased citizen participation and government-civil society engagement reflect a commitment to democratic values. Hon. Woode urged teachers to instill democratic values in education, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s democratic future.

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is dedicated to enhancing education by making TVET and STEM education accessible and improving teachers’ living conditions. He appreciates the support of religious bodies in strengthening democracy and urges religious leaders to contribute ideas to democratic thinking and human values.

He said Security Commanders play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, which is essential for attracting investors to the Akrofuom District.

Again, the Akrofuom DCE in his speech said reaping the benefits of independence hinges on the country’s ability to harness our democratic efficiency.

“As a nation, and particularly as a district, it is our duty to utilize democracy for our pride. Serving our country in various capacities should always be considered an honor. To the youth, success in education and life depends on embracing hard work and discipline for national development. I am confident that Ghana will continue to uphold a democratic system where people participate in decision-making and hold laws and policy proposals accountable”, he stressed.

Vincent Tetteh, representing the District Director of Education underscored the significance of the anniversary celebration and the nation’s achievements since gaining independence.

Mr. Tetteh urged residents in the district to contribute to both district and national development, emphasizing the government’s desire for every citizen to thrive regardless of one’s background. He stressed the importance of prioritizing infrastructure, particularly schools, as education plays a pivotal role in national development.
