The Apesemakahene of Mampong Akwapem, Nana Yirenkyi I has publicly disassociated the people of Akwapim from the acts and conduct of social media sensation and one-song-musician, Rosemond Brown popularly known as Sexy Akuapem Poloo, recently jailed 9 days for posting her nude pictures together with her son on social media.
The chief said the fact that Rosemond Brown has adopted the name ‘Akuapem Poloo’ would deceive many into thinking she is from one of the Akwapem towns and that could get some people speaking negatively about the Akwapem people anything she does something considered as unacceptable.
He said there is the need to put on record that Akuapem Poloo is not from any of the Akwapim towns and she has been cautioned several times to be of good conduct of she wants to continue to use the name because whatever she does affects the image and integrity of the Akwapim people.
“She is not an Akuapem native… According to her, she has lived here in Akuapem before but it doesn’t mean that you’re from Akuapem … I am not saying this because of the situation she is in now. She is human. She is a Ghanaian, so, we’re concerned. We shouldn’t defend only people from our hometown
“I once raised issues about how the lady was attaching our name to her brand. Somewhere last year, she looked for my number and got in touch. I must honestly say she looks really innocent…She came to request to see the queens and queen mothers of the land and the chief but she left and never returned.
“Our only concern is the usage of our name…if she uses it in a good way, it’s not a problem because she might be fascinated with the name” , the chief, Nana Yirenkyi I, told Accra FM.
In Just last year when Akuapem Poloo published the said nude photo with her son, Nana Yirenkyi publicly spoke against the act and said it was attracting some negative perceptions for the Akwapem people simply because of the name the lady in question has adopted.
“I will personally make sure Akuapem Poloo is punished for her action. I will report her to all the five divisional chiefs and later to the New Okuapehene to deal with her.
“First of all, Akuapem Poloo is not a native of this land. She just came to live here so we will not allow her to drag our name into the mud. We don’t need her here because she is a disgrace to the people of Akwapim.
“Some time ago she did a similar thing and she was spoken to extensively and she apologized but it looks like she has no shame and it is about time she put a stop to this nonsense”, he said.
