Akufo-Addo Asked Me to Step Down 3 Times – Ntim
The National Chairman-aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ntim, has confirmed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to him to step down for his arch-rival Alhaji Abubakar Abdul-Raman (Alhaji Short) in the race.
Mr Ntim’s revelation confirms rumours that during a meeting with Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s national executives and some of the aspirants, Mr Ntim and other certain aspirants were allegedly asked to step down for the President’s preferred candidates.
In the leaked recording, Mr Ntim is heard allegedly casting aspersions at Nana Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Short.
Speaking on the matter on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM on Tuesday, 17 April 2018, Mr Ntim, who is having a fourth go at the position, said: “I’ve met with the president on three occasions, he’s been appealing to me and I’ve been appealing to him, I’m not going to lie about anything and I’m not going to make any concoctions, we’ve had meetings and it’s a gentleman kind of negotiations and I appealed to him that I’m contesting and he’s also appealing to me so what’s the secret about this.”
He confirmed: “The president is appealing to me to step down for Alhaji Short, I’ll not mince words, I’ll not decorate it, this is what it is, it’s not a lie, I don’t think the president will lie about this, the president will not lie about this. He appealed to me passionately and I also stated my position.”
Mr Ntim, however, refused to disclose why the president wants him to step down for Alhaji Short.
