A Ghanaian living in the United States over the weekend bantered with President Akufo-Addo over the creation of the Oti region out of the Volta region.
A commission of enquiry set up by the President recommended the creation of six new regions after vetting petitions presented for same.
The Electoral Commission following that, has organized a limited voters registration exercise in the affected areas ahead of a referendum in December.
But at a meeting with the Ghanaian community in Washington D.C. a concerned Voltarian named Kossi Nuterkpor told the President that the approach for the referendum was wrong and described the move as “land grabbing.”
The President in a short video over the encounter circulating on social media denied the claims of Nuterkpor who was heard at the background questioning the move by the president.
He had suggested to the Nana Addo that the move amounted to “land grab”, a position the president flatly denied.
The president in a quick rebuttal stated: “…It’s not land grab…are they not Ghanaians; they have been asking for this for God knows how long?”
Nana Addo Continued amidst further question from Nuterkpor: “…its time, what’s wrong with that?”
