Akufo-Addo Vows to Defend Ghana’s Democracy

President Nana Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government’s firm stance against any attempts to destabilize Ghana’s democracy as the December 7 general elections draw near.

Speaking at his final National Best Farmer Awardson Friday, November 8th, 2024, he emphasized a resolute commitment to upholding peace and security during this crucial electoral period.

As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make one thing absolutely clear again. I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build and a legacy that must be protected.

The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempts to disrupt the peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full weight of the law.

 Let there be no doubt, that our democracy will remain strong and the people’s choice will prevail, not that of any desperate and ambition politician or party”, the president assured.

In his speech, President Akufo-Addo highlighted Ghana’s enduring democratic principles, stressing the importance of a credible electoral process.

He urged Ghanaians to remember the sacrifices and dedication that have established Ghana’s democracy, which has become a respected example across Africa and beyond.

The president acknowledged the foundational efforts of past leaders, civil society, and citizens in creating a peaceful political landscape.

He called upon all Ghanaians to take responsibility for safeguarding this legacy, stressing that the unity and stability of the nation must be prioritized above all else.

President Akufo-Addo also urged political figures, party supporters, and citizens to uphold unity and peace, emphasizing that Ghana’s democratic values must be protected against any form of threat.

He reminded the audience that securing a stable and democratic Ghana is a collective duty, especially as the nation approaches this important electoral milestone.
