Akwasi Appiah Fights for Lesser Known Sports
HEAD TRAINER of the Black Stars, Akwasi Appiah, has called for government’s support for all sporting activities in the country.
He also entreated all the major stakeholders in sports to give some level of attention and support to the lesser known sports.
The Ghana coach was not happy about the fact that football is always given attention, whilst other sporting disciplines are ignored.
Akwasi Appiah said over-concentrating on football at the expense of the other sporting disciplines would not help the country.
“Sports is not only about football, so the authorities concerned should pay some attention to the other disciplines, which have been ignored.
“Who knows, we may get a superstar sprinter or boxer if we decide to pay attention to the other sporting activities”, he appealed passionately.
He was speaking when the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) launched its Youth and Sports Development Sub-Committee in Kumasi.
The Sub-Committee is the brainchild of the current KMA boss, Osei Assibey Antwi, and it is intended to promote all sporting disciplines in the city.
Akwasi Appiah praised the Kumasi Mayor for having the vision to come out with the Youth and Sports Development Sub-Committee and urged him to sustain his good works.
