Alban Bagbin Applauds Akufo-Addo For Implementing Free SHS

National Democratic Congress Presidential Aspirant and Second deputy speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin has lauded the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on its implementation of the Free SHS policy describing it as one of Ghana’s best policies the country has witnessed.

Adding that, the President needs a powerful team to head the education Ministry which according to him, current appointees refuse to listen to the voice of the people concerning certain challenges of the policy.

Speaking in an interview on Bryt FM monitored by thepublisheronline.com during his tour to the Eastern Region, Mr. Alban Bagbin said he does not hate the free education policy but how it was rushed in it implementation has brought challenges and vowed to continue the policy when he becomes President in 2021 with measures to address the challenges for its sustainability.

”The Free SHS is a wonderful policy, I think it is one of the best things that has happened to us as a country. Although, they should have mitigated the possible risks and the optimum risk adjustment before rolling it out. I think it is a good policy which deserves support and commendation’’ – he said.

Mr. Bagbin however kicked against the double tracking system which he believes will affect quality education delivery in the Country.

Double Track System: Gov’t don’t want Dropouts – Akufo-Addo states

The President, Nana Akufo – Addo had earlier justified the implementation of the government’s flagship policy; Free Senior High (SHS) despite warranted criticisms from leading members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some concern Ghanaians home and abroad

“We don’t want dropouts!”, the President declared at the graduation ceremony of some 138 officers at the Ghana Military Academy at Teshie in Accra .

According to the President, “very soon, we [government] will pass legislation that stipulates of every child in Ghana should go to school up to Senior High School level, at least”.

In April this year, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he is fulfilling promises he and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made to Ghanaians in the run-up to the December 2016 elections.
