Alhaji Yahaya Kundow, the incumbent Greater Accra Regional Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday filed his nomination papers to contest the Regional Chairmanship slot.
His main contender in the race is the incumbent Regional Chairman Mr Kobina Ade Coker, who is also seeking for another four year term.
After filing his papers, Alhaji Kundow told the Ghana News Agency that, having served in the portfolio of Regional Treasurer of the NDC for 12 years, he believed it was time to lead the Party in the Region.
He said election was a democratic process, hence, the need for all Party members, especially candidates and their supporters to conduct clean campaign devoid of vilifications.
“For people to go around destroying their neighbours, I am not for that. For me I am for peace,” Alhaji Kundow stated.
He said, when given the mandate to lead the Party, he would ensure that 60 per cent of both Presidential and Parliamentary votes in the Region went to the NDC.
Alhaji Kundow appealed to Party delegates to give him the mandate to enable him lead the Region to victory in election 2020.
Mr Anass Abdulai, an aspirant for the position of Deputy Regional Youth Organisation, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said when elected, he would ensure that the youth were empowered right from the grass root to the national levels.
He said youth empowerment was very critical to attaining victory come election 2020; adding that he would ensure that resources were made available to Party youth across aboard.
Mr Abdulai therefore, appealed to Party delegates to give him their votes in order for him to be able to prosecute his youth empowerment agenda.
The atmosphere at the Party’s Greater Accra Regional Headquarters, was full of colour, as supporters of the various aspirants, danced to the tune of Party songs, and at the same time hailed their favourite candidates.
