Ghanaian international right-back, Alidu Seidu, has suffered an ACL tear in his left knee, according to a statement from his club, Stade Rennes.
The 24-year-old player was forced to leave the field during the first half of Rennes’ 1-0 defeat to Lille OSC on Sunday. Seidu was replaced by Mikayil Faye, a former Barcelona centre-back.
Medical exams which was undertaken on Monday confirmed the severity of the injury. Seidu is not expected to return for the remainder of the season.
Seidu’s injury comes as a huge blow for Ghana, where he has been immense in recent games for the Black Stars.
The injury means Seidu will not be part of Ghana’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers in March and June 2025, as the Black Stars look to right the wrongs of not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The former Clement Foot defender has made 11 appearances for Rennes this season.
