Aliu Mahama Foundation Cleans Kumasi

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in collaboration with the Aliu Mahama Foundation on Saturday, 25 November, 2017 embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in Kumasi to rid the city of filth.

The exercise dubbed: “Cleaning and Greening Kumasi and Soup Kitchen for the homeless”, formed part of activities to mark the five-year remembrance of the late former vice president, Aliu Mahama.

Major streets, market places including the Kumasi central market, Adum, Airport roundabout, Manhyia, Roman hill among other areas were cleaned and gutters unclogged.

The exercise received massive participation from the members of the Foundation, assembly members, traders, head potters, personnel from the national fire service among others.

Addressing a gathering at the jubilee park after the exercise, the Son of the late former vice president, Farouk Aliu Mahama, expressed gratitude to president Nana Akufo-Addo for “showing leadership by remembering his colleague; his brother; his former vice president, Aliu Mahama for his wonderful exhibition, brotherly love and share responsibility cutting across the length and breadth of Ghana”.

He said the president has shown his late father’s “family an honour we can never forget”.

According to him, the clean-up exercise was organised to show that Aliu Mahama’s legacy in terms of discipline has not been forgotten adding that it will be replicated in Tamale.

The Planning Committee Chairman of the Foundation, Mr Gabby Otchere-Darko, advised the zongo communities to emulate Aliu Mahama, and take their education serious since they can also rise up to become a vice president.

He said the Aliu Mahama Foundation was initiated to support the zongo communities and the needy, and therefore, advised the head potters and others to take advantage of it through technical and vocational skills provided by the foundation.
