Plans are far advanced by the Ga Traditional Council, Mpese Royal Family, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, e-Ananse Libraries, Accra City Hall, Djata Nabi Productions and Play House.kom for the presentation of the maiden edition of the much awaited ‘Homowo Home Coming Festival’.
This fully packed festival, according to the organisers, seeks to ‘journey everyone back to the beginning of the Ga-Adangbe history’.
It is set to take place at the Fore Court of the Accra City Hall within the new AMA Complex (situated between Accra ‘Tema Station’ and Kinbu SHS).
The ‘Homowo Home Coming Festival’ is designed to depict the main activities characteristic of the Homowo festival, and has over 1,000 subscribed participants spanning from Teshie to Chorkor.
This edition is running under the theme ‘Celebrating the Rich Heritage Culture of the Ga-Adangbe people!’ and, will comprise sessions such as Conversations, Master classes, Workshops/clinics, Forums, Durbar of Chiefs, Performances and Exhibition/sale of artefacts, clothing, painting, food etc.
e-Ananse Library at the AMA Complex, as a partner of the festival, would engage students in reading in the Ga-Adangbe languages on Saturday, plus a session dubbed ‘Anaanu Night’, a story telling session about the famous Kwaku Ananse, as well as Ga-Adangbe Folklore.
Some of the dignitaries scheduled to be at festival include the President of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs, Nai Wulomo, the Mayor of Accra, former Mayors of Accra, Paramount Chief of Sempe Traditional Area, Gbese Mantse, and Sakumo Wulomo, among others.
The Special Guests of Honour will be the Deputy Minister of Greater Accra Region and the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The festival promises to be entertaining as activities as Live Band Performances with known artistes will be seen.
There would be sessions for corporate institutions to interact with their target audiences while Exhibition/Sale grounds with representation of myriad of businesses would be given the opportunity to sell and connect with customers. Entry is free!
