The Governing Board of the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) has in accordance with the Constitution, inaugurated Professions Specific Committees for 11 professions under the Body.
According to Section 148 (2) of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act of 2013 (Act 857, Part One), ‘the Governing Board of the Allied Health Professions Council is enjoined to establish Professions Specific Committees for each of the Professions mentioned in the Schedule of the Act.’
The inaugural ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at the Ghana Medical Association Conference Room in Korle Bu, Accra.
The Committees inaugurated are for Medical Laboratory Scientists, Optometry and Optics, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Community Mental Health, and Radiography.
Others are Medical Physics, Health Promotion, Nutrition and Dietetics, Oral Health, and Physiotherapy.
Chairman for the Governing Board, Prof. Augustine Kwame Kyere, in his inaugural address, implored the new Committee members to cooperate with the Board to enable the Council achieve its mandate.
“In fact, there is no limit to what can be asked of the Committee in their new roles as stakeholders,” he said.
Prof. Kyere entreated the Committees to work together and avoid competition as the AHPC is made up of diverse professions.
The Professions that are regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council are Community Mental Health, Dental Health, Dental Laboratory Science, Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetic, Disease Control and Environmental Health.
Others include; Health Information, Health Promotion, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Physics, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Physiotherapy Prosthetics and Orthotics, Respiratory Therapy, Sonography and Therapy Radiography.
