The General Legal Council (GCL) has announced that popular aspiring lawyer and influencer, Elorm Ama Ababio alias ‘Ama Governor’ would not be part of the enrolment list of candidates to be called to the bar today Friday October 20, 2023.
“At the meeting of the General Legal Council held on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023, your application to be called to the bar was declined on account of elements noted in your public conduct prior to the application,” a letter dated Wednesday October 18, 2023, addressed to Ama Governor and signed by Justice Cyra Pamela C. A. Koranteng (JA); the Judicial Secretary, the GLC noted.
The Council explained that though it received the appropriate application from Ama Governor and she was supposed to be called to the bar today, that decision has been rescinded.
The letter explained further that when the Council received the application letter from Ama Governor, it explained to her that her conduct would be monitored by the in accordance with dictates of the law profession.
“In line with the General Legal Council’s letter dated 13th March, 2023, Council was to observe and monitor your conduct during the time leading up to the submission of your application to be called to the bar” the GLC stated in the October 18 letter.
It noted further that Ama Governor could not meet the criteria, therefore the Council has declined to honour her application to be called to the Ghanaian bar today, October 20.
“At the meeting of the General Legal Council held on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023, your application to be called to the bar was declined on account of elements noted in your public conduct prior to the application,” the Council explained.
The GLC said Ama Governor could re-apply to be called to the bar any other day after the 20th October, 2023.
It said it shall continue monitoring Ama Governor until her conduct is deemed appropriate and fit to be called to the Ghanaian bar.
In November last year, the GLC tasked a committee to investigate Ama Governor after complaint of misconduct widely circulated videos engaging in conduct believed to be unbefitting of an aspiring lawyer candidate.
The GLC later resolved to permit her to fill appropriate forms for application to be called to Bar in October/November 2023 citing observation and monitoring of her activities before considering her application.
