AMAA 2024: Jackie Appiah Nominated for Best Actress Award

Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah has been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in “Red Carpet” at the upcoming 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

She will compete against notable talents including Girley Jazama, Oyin Oladejo, Unati Faku, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Laura Pepple, and Ife Irele.

The Africa Film Academy officially announced the highly anticipated nominations at the launch of the 20th edition of the awards ceremony which took place in on Wednesday, October 2, at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Nigeria.

The event drew a crowd of industry professionals, including members of the jury, the screener college, and key figures from the Africa Film Academy (AFA), such as Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, the Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Mr. Tony Anih, and AMAA gala night producer Mr. Kingsley James.

The theme for this year’s milestone event is “Celebrating African Creativity,” highlighting the significant achievements in African filmmaking. Anyiam-Osigwe shared an exciting lineup of activities scheduled for the 20th edition, which include: the launch of the AMAA coffee table book on October 25, followed by the AMAA Africa Night of Legends on November 1.

Additional events include “AMAA Meets Nollywood” and the “AMAA Africa Fashion Show and Exhibition,” both of which will have their dates announced later, culminating in the AMAA Gala Night at the Balmoral Convention Centre in the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on November 2.

Anyiam-Osigwe emphasized that the 2024 AMAA aims to redefine continental awards and pave the way for the future while honoring the richness of Africa’s creative industry. This 20th edition promises to be a memorable celebration of creativity, innovation, and artistic excellence in Africa.
