A Dhaka court on Sunday issued a warrant for the arrest of 169 BNP leaders and activists, including its chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman, in a violence case filed in 2017.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Md Ashrafuzzaman passed the order as the BNP men did not appear before the court.
The court also set January 13 for submitting a report on the compliance of the arrest warrant.
Additional public prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul said the court issued the arrest warrant rejecting time petitions filed by the accused.
A lawyer of the accused, Masum Ahmed Talukdar, said the BNP leaders and activists came to appear before the court but they went away after seeing the presence of additional law enforcers on the court premises.
The case was filed against the BNP men on June 2, 2017 with Keraniganj Police Station.
